Maybe My Hometown's Not So Blue...

The editor of the paper back home asked if he could publish the e-mail I sent him. I agreed - afterall, the more people who hear it, the better, right? He published part of it at the end of an article. Sadly, he presumed that I was a "he" and not a "she" because my name is gender-neutral. Sigh. Perhaps that needs to be the subject of my next letter to him? The dangers of presuming someone's gender based on name, appearance, etc? We'll see...

At any rate, I can't help but be a little bit proud that the editor of this conservative small town's paper is willing to take this issue on and stand up for what's right. I'm not sure he and I are totally on the same page with regard to this issue, but he's taking on the fight and he's making people think. Bravo.
