Listen Up
So, today I'm using ICT to avoid having to post my own thoughts and instead encourage you to listen to someone else's thoughts.
The book Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and The Rise of Raunch Culture was originally released in August 2005 but came out in paperback in October of this year. I didn't read it because I initially misunderstood what the book was about... Until I was sent a link to an interview the author gave on NPR.
Now I can't wait to read it. I must admit, I am very much Dworkin-ist, anti-porn feminist. I'm not going to go into that right now, but I urge you all to listen to the interview, go to your local feminist (or other independent book store), buy the book, read it, and e-chat about your reactions. It should provoke some interesting discussions.

I listened to the NPR broadcast, and tonight when I was shopping in a book store I picked up the book. I've read about the raunch culture section and it covers many items that have concerned me.
Since I first saw some of the GGW infomerials, I've always considered Joe Francis a low-life scumbag. He's a pathetic human being but he is a smart captalist who manipulates some foolish girls into giving him free materials that gullible young men pay him millions of dollars for. Other pornographers have to pay more expenses than just supply some free hats and t-shirts and lots of booze.
To make a long story shorter. The porn industry, the sexist clothes advertisements, sex saturation in TV and movies act as the "fluffers" for the Patriarchy to undo the work of the feminist revolution. They are putting the velvet handcuffs back on the little, and the not so little, girls and young women.
What do I know and why do I care? I have three daughters and five granddaughters, and I weep for them.
Great selection, I'm always up for a great read...can I borrow your copy??
